Biddeford, ME – Five local charities shared over $6,000 raised by Biddeford Savings in its annual Music on Main Street summer concert series to benefit non-profit organizations.
Charles Petersen, the bank’s president and CEO, recently distributed $1,250 each to the Biddeford Free Clinic, Stone Soup Food Pantry, Community Bicycle Center, Community Partners, Inc., and Bon Appetit Community Meal Program.

Music on Main Street is a series of four summer concerts held in July on the green adjacent to the bank’s Main Street office in Biddeford. Sponsored by the bank with cash and in-kind support from local businesses, the concerts are free but food is available for purchase. All funds raised from lunches provided by Ned’s Bakes and BBQ’s are donated to local charities.
“This is our eighth year of holding this event and each year it grows in popularity and support,” noted Petersen. “In that time we’ve raised more than $36,000 to benefit non-profit organizations that play an integral role in supporting people in our communities. The concerts have a dual benefit: they attract people downtown and raise monies for great organizations. We’re delighted to organize these concerts each year and we are deeply grateful to the enthusiastic support we receive from the local businesses who provide cash and in-kind support.”
“We have been a recipient of Biddeford Savings’ support from the Music on Main Street events for a number of years,” notes Joan Gordon, executive director of the Biddeford Free Clinic. “We are deeply grateful, to say the least. Biddeford Savings is an outstanding example of an organization that likes to keep their monies working within the local community. They have repeatedly stepped up to the plate. They see where the need is greatest and fill that need not only with financial support but with volunteer effort from their employees.”
“If we didn’t get his kind of support, we wouldn’t be able to run,” adds Debra L. Gagnon, director of the Bon Appetit Community Meal Program. “When organizations like Biddeford Savings step forward and raise funds on our behalf, it makes a big difference. It’s nice to know that the community is behind us.”
“It’s been wonderful to receive such ongoing year-on-year support from a business in our community that supports not only us but other deserving non-profit organizations,” says Andy Greif, executive director of the Community Bicycle Center. “Biddeford Savings has established a great collaborative model for community support and we’re glad to be a recipient of the monies they raise through the Music on Main Street events.”
Music on Main Street sponsors included Dean Tourigny, DMD, Edward J. Hirst, DMD, Hull Law Offices, LLC, Oak Point Associates, P&C Insurance, and Woodman Edmands Danylik Austin Smith & Jacques, PA. In-kind sponsors include Dietz Associates Inc., Heart of Biddeford, Journal Tribune, Mainely Newspapers, Ned’s Bakes and BBQs, and the Sun Chronicle.
