Kennebunk, ME – The 8th grade students at the Middle School of the Kennebunks were able to keep a longtime tradition alive with the support of Biddeford Savings.
The school’s annual Thanksgiving luncheon for seniors in the community was held in the school’s cafeteria on November 14th. More than 400 guests, including residents of several of Kennebunk’s assisted living facilities, were treated to a traditional holiday meal, including turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and, of course, apple and pumpkin pie.
The event has been held for more than 20 years but was in danger of being canceled last year due to school budget restrictions. Biddeford Savings stepped in to fund the event in 2011 and this year.
“We feel this is a wonderful opportunity for students to show their appreciation for older folks in our community,” notes Charles Petersen, bank president and CEO, who was on hand with several other bank employees to serve dessert. “When we heard that the school needed support for this event, it was an easy decision to step in and help out.”
This year the bank asked Channel 6 TV personality and weatherman, Kevin Mannix, to help co-host the event.
