Biddeford, ME – When Biddeford Savings started Music on Main Street twelve years ago they were looking to create a fun way to give back to the community and to draw residents and visitors to downtown. To say it has been a success is an understatement. The Music on Main Street concerts have raised over $67,000 for local non-profits since it began in 2004. This year over $7,000 was raised from the concerts and shared between five local non-profit organizations in Biddeford.

Charles Petersen, the bank’s president and CEO, recently distributed $1,425 each to the Biddeford Free Clinic, Stone Soup Food Pantry, Community Bicycle Center, Community Partners, Inc., and Bon Appetit Community Meal Program.

“The local nonprofits we support have been amazing, said Petersen. “We really get excited to come out here each week and see the community gather together to have a great time, for a great purpose.”

Music on Main Street is a series of four summer concerts held in July on the green adjacent to the bank’s Main Street office in Biddeford. Sponsored by the bank with cash and in-kind support from local businesses, the concerts are free but food is available for purchase. All funds raised from lunches provided by Ned’s Bakes and BBQ’s are donated to local charities.

The event is about fun and doing something good for the community. “Caring for our community and helping community organizations, families and individuals is important to all of us at Biddeford Savings. It is a strong part of our culture,” said Petersen. “We realize the opportunity we have to make an impact, and we work to make that as meaningful as possible.”
